Skincare tips when traveling

Skincare should be a regular part of your healthy lifestyle.

Do you ever notice that when you travel your skin doesn't seem to get the memo?? Here are some great tips when travel to different climates.

Dry dehydrated skin

Often we like to take a nice long hot shower to help relax. You're actually making your skin dry by doing this. When traveling, avoid long, hot showers; they actually draw moisture out of your skin and make you itchy. Instead go for luke warm showers, then apply moisturizer while your skin is still damp. This helps deal in extra moisture.

If you like to take warm baths, try using some bath oil to help ease the dryness you will experience after.

When showing, always use a loofah sponge or a body microdermabrasion product regularly with warm water to boost circulation and remove dead skin cells. Your skin will feel silky smooth after.

Keep humidity in your room at about 50% or ask if the hotel has a humidifier.

High-altitude tips

When traveling in places with high-altitudes, slather on extra moisturizer in the morning and before you hit they hay.

UV radiation increases 10-12% every 3000 feet of elevation, so even if you can't see the sun, always apply sunscreen with antioxidants to protect your skin.

It's really important that you don't forget your lips. The sun can be relentless at higher altitudes, so use a sun protection on your lips...and remember lips gloss is NOT sunscreen for your lips. You'll look super cute with a shiny lip gloss, but it won't offer you any protection from the sun...and burnt lips are no fun.

Fresh Looking skin in the tropics

To help keep your skin healthy and fresh, use a clay-based cleaning mask weekly to unclog your pores and help prevent blemishes. Just because we age...doesn't mean those pesky blemishes stop in our teenage years.

Heat and humidity increase oil production, so when traveling in warmer climates, use an oil-free moisturizer only to areas of the face that feel dry and tight.

Whether your playing volleyball on the beach or lying under an umbrella reading your sunscreen comes off when you sweat. Ensure you re-apply your sunscreen often. Mineral sunscreens containing zinc oxide can have a mattifying effect and may work better for oily skin.

Oil blotting papers are also a great way to refresh your face throughout the day.

Have fun in the sun, but ensure you take extra precautions to protect your skin!

...and remember, a healthy lifestyle includes skincare
